New B.M.O.C.
CBS Marketwatch reports that Mediabistro has acquired CableNewser.com, a blog covering the cable business. “Acquired” is something of a euphemism – as CableNewser.com’s Brian Stelter’s said in an interview, “I’m not getting rich, but it’s better than relying on donations.” No shame in that game. After all, for a guy (a kid?) who was until some time in 2003 “Editor in Chief, The Observer Newspaper, Damascus High School” (according to his resume), this strikes us as something of a coup for Brian Stelter. He is clearly the new B.M.O.C.
Astoundingly, the CBS Marketwatch story makes no mention of Stelter’s qualifications – or lack thereof. Rather, Frank Barnako reports the piece with the same tone he might use for a real acquisition, leaving the reader with the impression that Mr. Stelter is a seasoned trade hack or an industry insider. In fact, he appears to be an undergraduate at Towson State University. Must have been a slow news day…
