Exai Raises $15M To Repurpose Facebook Pages As Web Sites
Israel-based Exai has raised $15M and launched a product 4 months back to convert Facebook sites to Web plus mobile sites. The company claims it has created 15K sites since then. The company says its most popular pricing package is $3.50 per month. The company also jumped into the domain registration space by buying BlackIceDomains.
Exai competes with simple Web site building tools like Wix and Squarespace but is leading with the Facebook conversion. Here are some examples of sites: Tanforum and ContinentalRental.
Why is there a market for companies that want to convert their Facebook pages to Web sites? It seems kind of niche to us. You can set-up a Web site quickly and easily without a Facebook page, so it doesn’t seem that having a Facebook page really saves any time. So we suspect that marketing angle is more of ploy for Exai to set itself apart from the competitors. But the fact that the company has raised $15M so quickly and has 50 people on staff already means that investors like the Web site building space.
