Funders Club Raises $6M For Angel Investment Platform
Funders Club has raised $6M from YCombinator, First Round Capital, Draper Associates, Felicis Ventures, Spark Capital, Digital Garage, Intel Capital, and Chris Dixon. The company had previously raised $1m and seems to be seeing some success. The company has built a marketplace where prospective angel investors can screen investments and to pretty easily make investments for as little as $1K.
FundersClub has seen 3,400 investors register and about 10% have invested. Clearly the site and others like it can grow. Angel investing seems to be getting more popular, especially for tax purposes and cheap capital gains taxes. Professional investors say that there is too much forth in the early stage market and we agree that if we were pro VCs its less interesting, but it is easier for startups to get to profitability so if you are an angel in a Funders Club business you might have a reasonable chance of a good return vs. investing in the stock market or bonds.
