Data Protection Startups Get Their Meal Ticket
June 21, 2005
Ugly newspaper headlines can be beautiful in the eyes of startups. Take the rash of coverage of personal data intrusion. Tens of millions of credit card and social security numbers have fallen into the wrong hands in recent months. That sucks for all who own those numbers but it’s a publicity and sales windfall for data protection companies. Smart companies, like Ping Identity, which wrote a perspectives piece for CNET today, cash in on such news by providing their expertise. Data protection is already an active VC market, but we expect to see a number of new startups here clamoring to shore up leaky corporate data spigots.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey’s Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
