Soma Networks - Profle
HQ: San Francisco, CA
Founded: 1998
Management: Yatish Pathak is Founder, President, and CEO. He hails from Lucent.
Investors: In June 2005, Soma raised a $50M round led by Temasek and Morgan Stanley Venture Partners, including participation from NeoCarta Ventures, and Endeavour Investments. To date, SOMA has raised $175M in funding.
Business Model: Soma sells equipment to telcos to improve last mail efficiencies in delivering broadband Internet access, coupled with voice. It has a box that sits in homes as well as a base station
Competitors: Navini Networks, IP Wireless, UTStarcom.
Dirt: $120M doesn’t get you what it used to. Soma’s technology might kick-ass but it has been in business for 7 years and Soma has the gall to issue a press release boasting that it has rolled out in Great Falls, Montana. What gives? Everyone knows there is going to be a big business here and VCs have moved money in with bulldozers, but someone has to start closing some deals soon.
Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey’s Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
