Akimbo’s Press Tour
The Akimbo team went on the road to meet with press to promote their TV-via-the-Internet product. What did they get for their troubles? Some choice quotes from the New York Times: “In short, Akimbo is a train wreck” and “It might just walk away with High-Tech Turkey of the Year.”
Just last week, we wondered why there is not more Internet video start-up activity. The Times review provides one answer. Given the maturity of music online, expectations for video online are just as high. To be fair, Akimbo received a mixed set of reviews. Engadget’s summary is that “There’s a lot to like, though, and there’s a lot of promise here.” Businessweek gives a more mixed review. But both seemed to be looking to the future of Akimbo, rather than at the startup’s current offerings.
