Teneros - Profile
HQ: Mountain View, CA
Founded: 2003
Management: Steve Lewis is co-founder & CEO. He formerly was CEO of a company called All Bases Covered. He also co-founded an ISP in China. His co-founder & CTO Matt Ocko founded the email pioneer Da Vinci Sytems.
Investors: In March 2005, the company raised $17.5M in funding, led by STAR Ventures with New Enterprise Associates and Sevin Rosen Funds. The company has raised $24.5M to date.
Business Model: The company sells appliances that assure continuous operations of Microsoft applications, particularly Exchange. The object is to provide zero downtime and simple installation.
Competitors: Stonefly Networks, US Data Trust, Storactive, Sungard.
Dirt: While we are fairly impressed with the management team and the beauty of their storage box, so far its difficult to get worked up about Teneros. Hundreds of companies can offer backup for Exchange. Big whoop. Maybe Teneros might have a more elegant solution, but how will they stand-out amidst the din?
Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey’s Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
