First Solar To Supply Modules For 25 MW Project In India

September 6, 2012

It may not be a big win by First Solar’s (FSLR :NASDAQ) but it certainly is strategic as they will be supplying 25 megawatts (MW) of thin-film solar modules to Green Infa Limited of India.

The modules will be deployed on a site in India’s Rajasthan state as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. By 2022, the National Solar Mission is hoping to have installed 22 gigawatts (GW) of solar power.

Green Infra currently has 240 mw of energy generation under management and is currently developing a diverse renewable energy portfolio that includes wind, small hydro, and biomass.

With uncertainty hovering over many of the countries that have been the stalwarts for solar development, India represents a beacon of hope for the solar industry and developing traction in the country will be important to the industry’s current players.

Shares of First Solar were up 11.8 percent in afternoon trading.
