PopTent Raises $5.5M For Video Ad Crowdsourcing

San Clemente-based PopTent has raised $5.5M from MK Capital. We are big fans of video advertising. It makes sense for advertisers as their pay per view works better than paying for most TV advertising and if they have a hit with the video they get viral growth. PopTent allows advertisers to commission creatives to create video ads. Many of the video ads that we see are repurposed ads from TV but for may smaller companies in particular that don’t have TV ads PopTent makes sense. What makes the PopTent story impressive is that lDell, Intel, Jaguar, and Walgreens have paid for video ads.

Poptent says it has paid out more than $5M to videographers since being founded in 2007. That doesn’t strike us as a huge number but suspect that maybe Poptent gets to keep a few million dollars as well. And given the growth rate for online video ads we feel that there is green field ahead.
