Gamefly – Extra Info. From a Tipster

March 9, 2005

An anonymous foa:c (Friend of a:c) wrote in to share some unconfirmed and mildly interesting skinny about Gamefly, a company we profiled last December.

Apparently Sequoia was interested in investing in Gamefly “to the
tune of about $12M-$14M (Mike Moritz was the lead),” according to the source. Somehow the deal went south and the money never landed in Gamefly’s coffers.
Our source also tells us the undisclosed angel investor in Gamefly is Toby Lenk, formerly of eToys and now President of Gap Inc. Direct. For all we know, this is public information. We ran it by another informed source who said he thought it was no great secret.
But check out today’s profile on MarketLive (below) and you’ll see that whatever transpired at Gamefly wasn’t so bad that it prevents Sequoia and Toby Lenk from sitting in the same room: Lenk sits on the Board of MarketLive along with Sequoia partner Sameer Gandhi.

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey’s Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
