In light of the $108M venture round into Webroot, VC Bill Burnham tracks down all of the VC rounds in history over $100M. Webroot joins the infamous company of Asera, Buildnet and Zaplet. Burnham cuts Webroot some slack as he notes that the company is minting cash and that he guesses a fair amount of the money went to buy out founders. What he implies, however, is that once you raise that kind of money, it’s just so hard to keep the company focused that others haven’t been able to do it. Finally, Burnham predicts that the company will be sold as it’s not the kind of business that will IPO. And he thinks the Microsoft threat cannot be overstated.
