M-Qube – Profile

December 13, 2004

HQ: Watertown, MA
Founded: January 2001
Management: CEO is Jeffrey Glass who previously founded and ran Transactive Systems, a direct marketing firm that was sold to AOL/Bertelsmann.
Investors: In December 2004, M-Qube raised $17.5M in Series C led by Globespan Capital Partners, with Liberty Associated Partners, General Catalyst Partners, Bain Capital Ventures and Sigma Partners. Company raised in $8M November 2004 and$6.9M in in 2002.
Business Model: Clients outsource direct marketing via wireless channel to M-Qube. Techniques include premium content offers such as games and ringtones as well as coupons. Company has done deals with Procter & Gamble, Warner Music, Madonna, etc.
Competitors: Enpocket, iLoop Mobile, and Ipsh!
Dirt: Everyone knows there is going to be a huge direct marketing biz in wireless, but its not happening now and we don’t know when. M-Qube’s campaigns do not strike us as very mature or broad scoped, however, the company is building good experience and the war chest will help. M-Qube might grow muscles in in 2006 or later.
