Crashing the Party

September 3, 2004

EA announced yesterday that it’s making a bigger push into the mobile gaming market – it had to happen sooner or later. This segment of the video game industry has been heating up for the last year or so, and we’re guessing EA is already well into the development cycle with new games for its mobile strategy.

Burning No Bridges with EA
UK outfit Digital Bridges looks to be a winner with this announcement. The developer and distributor of mobile games is re-upping a three-year agreement with EA, primarily as a distribution partner. Read between the lines and it seems that EA wants to do most of its own development going forward.
What does this mean for the rest of the market? Consolidation, acquisition, validation. All of these things can lead to a nice pay day. Is Digital Bridges acquisition bait? We’ll see.
