Management: Richard Dellabarca carries the European designation of Commercial Director. Previously he worked on M&A deals for ABN Ambro. Technical co-founders jumped from GlobespanVirata, now Conexant.
Investors: Company raised $14M in Series A funding in July 2004 from Index Ventures co-led the round with Accel Partners and Amadeus Capital Partners and with investment from Oak Investment Partners.
Business Model: A fabless semiconductor company developing chips for high bandwidth wireless connectivity based on Ultra Wideband (UWB) technologies. UWB is being touted as the next WiFi or more as it will be used for consumer devices such as TVs, DVD players, music players, etc or Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPLANs). Allied Business Intelligence projects a $1.39bn market by 2007.
Competitors: VCs are buying the hype and have invested over $120M, mostly early stage dollars, in Artimi and four other competitor startups: Staccato Communications, Alereon, Pulselink, and Wisair. Public market competitors are: Intel, Philips Semiconductors, STM Microelectronics, and Freescale Semiconductor.
Dirt: Great market, good technical team, plenty of cash, a successful prototype, and are earlier to market than competitors’ products. Check back in 2006 when sales should start in earnest.
